Mother and Daughter Practicing Yoga in Their BIg Rapids HomeStuck at home? Don’t let the quarantine get to you. Learn to keep those cooped up feelings at bay! All the more if staying at home is a significant change from your previous routine, you’re likely resorting back to unhealthy habits. There’s an alternative you should consider. Rather than focusing on the things you are no longer able to do, however temporarily, make the most of your time at home by creating a daily self-care routine. Some habits and practices can be considered self-care. To help you, here are a few tips and ideas from the experts.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Nothing is better for your physical and emotional well-being than a good night’s sleep. If you are having a hard time sleeping, try creating a different evening routine. Before getting some shut-eye, engage in relaxing activities like walking or yoga. Avoid eating or drinking anything with caffeine or sugar in it. Make sure your sleeping space is positioned away from any source of distraction. Get the television and cell phone out of the bedroom, and make the room as dark as you can. And then, make it a routine to sleep at the same time every night and get up the same time the following day. It may not work immediately, but your body will soon adjust, and your rest will get better.

Eat a Balanced Diet

Too much time spent at home may lead to increased unhealthy snacking, whether from boredom, stress, or other causes. Don’t compromise your health. Keep in good shape by sticking to a healthy diet as a means of self-care. The kind of food you allow into your body will affect your health. Choose the ones that have a positive impact on your health. Some examples of these are green leafy vegetables, fish, nuts, and blueberries. Most of all, always drink plenty of water.

Do Something Active Every Day

There’s no denying that exercise is good for us. Nonetheless, punishing workouts or losing weight isn’t the only means of staying active. In line with your daily self-care routine, look for something you can do to maintain being active. If going outside is something you can do, try taking a walk or riding a bike. There are also indoor activities if you wish to stay inside. You can exercise by dancing, cleaning the house, or play active motion sensor video games! Develop the routine of staying active so that you can keep yourself physically and emotionally healthy.

Do Something Creative

A good self-care routine can sometimes come through taking a break from your daily routine and engaging in more creative activities. Creativity can be expressed in different ways. For others, it might be painting, drawing, or creative writing. For you, it could be crafts, sewing, or gardening. It all depends on what you choose according to your liking. Even designing future projects or rearranging furniture counts. Regardless of what you choose, just make sure you are genuinely enjoying it.

Set Realistic Goals

Part of taking care of yourself is not being too hard on yourself. Staying at home will mean a different outlet for your productivity as a person. So, be realistic about what you can and can’t do. Go for what can be accomplished in a day. Handle the easy tasks first, and then set realistic goals. Keep yourself motivated by getting tasks done, one after the other.

More so than any other, when you are staying at home, it’s important to make good self-care practices a priority. Schedule self-care activities just like an important business meeting, and guard that time thoroughly. In this way, your body and mind are sure to become healthy.
